Muhammed Zafar Iqbal (মুহম্মদ জাফর ইকবাল) is a Bangladeshi author and physicist. He is also a professor of computer science and engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
He was born on 23 December, 1952 in Sylhet. His father Faizur Rahman Ahmed was martyred in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. His mother's name is Ayesha Akhter Khatun. He spent his childhood in different parts of Bangladesh. He earned his BSc in Physics from Dhaka University in 1976. He earned his PhD from the University of Washington in 1982.
After obtaining his PhD degree, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at California Institute of Technology from 1983 to 1988. He then joined Bell Communications Research as a research scientist. He left the institute in 1994. Then he returned to Bangladesh.
He writes mainly for children and youngsters. Most of his Children's literature are very famous. Some of his renowned works are "Kaabil Kohkafi", "Shanta Poribar", "Dipu Number Two" etc. He is one of the pioneers of science fiction in the Bengali language. He wrote many science fiction books. He wrote an autobiography "Rongin Choshma" (Bengali: রঙিন চশমা). He also wrote several nonfiction on physics and mathematics.
He received many awards for his writing including Bangla Academy Award in 2004.
He was one of the founders of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad. He is now the Vice President of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad committee.
